Fans play Bulletstorm

A while back we invited two top ranked Bulletstorm Demo players to the studio to get to play an Echo no fan had ever played before. We wanted to see how high they could score, to see what they thought and also do something nice for a couple of fans.

Have a look of this video to see what they thought in the interview!

Embedded Storytelling

When designing a level, we need to consider what the overall experience for the player should be and it usually boils down to a single question: “Is it fun?” And for the sake of making any given area as entertaining as possible, we focus most of our attention on gameplay. There is, however, a part of Level Design that, if neglected and not kept consistent all the way through development, will make the end result look like a random assembly of interconnected rooms devoid of any personality. I am talking about storytelling.

Like Military Shooters

One thing that makes me sad is when people think they won’t like Bulletstorm because they like Military Shooters. Nothing could be further from the truth. You will most likely find the stuff you know and love in your favorite Military Shooter in Bulletstorm as well. And then some!

People talking about Bulletstorm sometime say stuff like “Bulletstorm is not like an ordinary Military Shooter”, but that doesn’t mean it’s not for you if you’re a fan of such games. It just means that you can’t look at any of those games and say “That’s all I get when I play Bulletstorm.”

Let’s look at what they provide and then let’s look at Bulletstorm.

Real Life Ragdoll [Request]

You asked for this! Previously you asked us for videos showing our Elite  physics Programmer Tomasz putting himself in the role of a ragdoll. So, as a Valentine’s card from us; Well, here it is!

Bulletstorm uses a lot of ragdolls for when enemies get shot or sent flying. Like when you kick them or they’re struck by an explosion. But to really make sure our ragdolls have the right “feel” in the game, Tomasz did some real life testing. With bubble-wrap. And the floor.

Echoes – Dev Style

The scores a lot of you are getting on the Bulletstorm Demo are crazy good!

We’ve previously posted some of the high scores (at the time) from some of the developers here at People Can Fly, but this time we thought we’d share a video giving some hints and tips on how we play the demo ourself.

Reloading, reloading…

All shooters have these. You’ve seen them a billion times, over and over again. What am I talking about? Reload animations of course!

A common issue with game animation is that they have to look amazing even after the player have seen them 10000000 times. So, when it comes to such a common thing as reload animations, which all shooters have, it takes some extra creative thinking.

Small details – loads of fun!

Hi I’m Krzysztof Dolas (‘Hatred’), an Environment Artist here at People Can Fly. I work with Level Artists from the Art Pit on all the things you see around our characters. This can be any object from a rock to a bridge.

If you’ve read some of the previous blog posts, you might be asking yourself how much effort does it take to make a single level? Let me give you an example from Bulletstorm’s pipeline; creating a simple “Office Chair”. Sounds easy right? Well read on….
