We never expected Waggleton to be as popular as he became after people played Bulletstorm. But then again, to be fair, he’s my favorite character in the game so I understand why it happened.
If you haven’t played Bulletstorm and met him, this post has some SPOILERS.
A search online proved Waggleton P. Tallylicker’s rise to fame.
If you didn’t play bulletstorm and don’t mind having this spoilt to you, in one section of the game you get to control a giant robot dinosaur. At the end of the section, he unfortunately dies, whereas Gray gives him the name Waggleton P. Tallylicker. It’s a very emotional moment.
Whilst developing Bulletstorm, we had a bunch of moments in the game where we’d go “Oh, people are gonna love this!” and often we were right. Controlling a friggin’ Mechaton was definitely on that list and many of us laughed when first hearing Gray’s song about him, but no one guessed people would get so attached to the fellah.
When Rick Remender wrote the script, I can’t imagine him expecting Waggleton to be that popular and called by name!
Waggleton has an interesting development anecdote as well. At first, he was all about melee attacks. Stepping on people and ramming buildings. I remember coming into to work one day and Piotr, one of our producers came into the design room. He mentioned something about the Mechaton’s “new functionality” and I was surprised.
- It now has new functionality. Have you heard about it?
- No?
- It now shoot lasers from his eyes.
That was the entire discussion. It needed to be even more fun to play and how do you make a robot dinosaur even cooler? Laser shooting eyes, of course!

Doing a search online for Waggleton P. Tallylicker pointed me to a bunch of forum threads on different forums, like “R.I.P. Waggleton” and Tribute-threads. I also found a Facebook fan page and heck, my favorite, even a tribute song!

Waggleton has a special place in my heart too. I hope People Can Fly can find a way to bring him back for Bulletstorm 2 (which we know is gonna happen… c’mon!) And yes, a Waggleton P. Tallylicker action figure would have pride of place on my mantelpiece!
How bout some DLC where we get more Waggleton sexiness? Eh? EHHHH?
